Fleet Week in NYC!

A well-served maritime week!

In case you didn’t know, Fleet Week is happening all next week and since some of you are heading with us to New York next Friday, I thought I could highlight in this blog some of the events that could be interesting for you to attend!

But… Maybe I should start off by explaining what Fleet Week is all about for those of you who are hearing this name for the first time…

This week long celebration starting on May 22nd, offers members of the Navy and Marines the opportunity to experience NYC and give the public a chance to meet some of the Maritime services members! Scheduled in perfect harmony with memorial weekend, almost 3 100 service members will be attending these maritime-themed attractions and you are invited to join the party as well!

For example on Friday, May 24, from 3:15–3:45 p.m., the U.S. Marine Corps will display a martial arts demonstration on Military Island in Time Square. Following that, there will be a viewing of the action movie Top Gun at the Intrepid Museum for those of you who a love a good mix of Tom Cruise and USS Enterprise!

And then on Saturday "Marine Day", from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. you can join the marines for fun activities and events in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park! Bring a good pair of shoes because a Marine-Mode workout is on the menu along with performances by the USMC Battle Color Detachment!

Also, there are a number of vessels that you can tour during Fleet Week! This year's ship and pier locations include Pier 88, Pier 86, Brooklyn Cruise Terminal and many more!
